Thomas Jung (rower)

Thomas Jung (born January 9, 1969 in Berlin ) is a former German rower who was world champion in two-man without a helmsman in 1989 and 1990 .

Thomas Jung rowed for SC Dynamo Berlin until 1990 and then for SC Berlin until 1992. In 1986, Jung was junior world champion in a four-man with a helmsman , and in 1987 he and Falk Wojciechowski won the junior title in a two-man without a helmsman. In 1988 Jung and Wojciechowski took third place at the GDR championships. From 1989 Jung rowed together with Uwe Kellner , the two won in 1989 and 1990 both at the GDR championships and at the rowing world championships. At the 1990 World Rowing Championships , Jung and Kellner were part of the team that once again took first place in the medal table at the last international appearance as the GDR national team.

After the fall of the Wall, Jung and Kellner competed in the German Championships in 1991 and only finished second behind the Westphalians Jürgen Hecht and Wolfgang Klapheck . In 1992 Thomas Jung together with Heino Zeidler and helmsman Axel Beutelmann won the title in two with helmsman at the German rowing championships, but in the absence of the Rostock boat, which came fourth at the 1992 Olympic Games.

After a break of several years, the 2.05 m tall boy returned to the regatta courses in 1997. At the German championships in 1997, the youngster, who is now competing for the rowing community Rotation Berlin, took third place with eighth . In 1998 Jung won the German championship title in eighth and fought for the silver medal at the World Championships in Cologne behind the US boat . In 1999, Jung rowed again to third place at the German championships.

Jung is currently (as of 2017) employed as a regional trainer at the North Rhine-Westphalian Rowing Association.
