Roger Charles Jackson (born January 14, 1942 in Toronto ) is a former Canadian rower and university professor.

The 1.99 m tall Roger Jackson began rowing at the University of Western Ontario in 1959 . After graduation, he moved to post-graduate studies at the University of Toronto in 1963 , but then decided to move to the University of British Columbia because he figured out better opportunities for his athletic career there. The eighth of the UBC Thunderbirds won the Canadian Championship without Jackson in 1964 and was nominated for the Tokyo Olympics. Jackson and Donald Pretty were scheduled for the two without a helmsman . When the eighth member George Hungerford fell ill, Pretty moved up to eighth and Hungerford switched to Jackson in twos after his recovery. Their first race together was the preliminary run in Tokyo, which they won before the Danish boat. In the final, the two Canadians won with 46 hundredths of a second ahead of the Dutch. The Jackson and Hungerford gold medal was the only gold medal for Canada at the Tokyo Games, the two being awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy in 1964.

Jackson took part in the Olympic Games in 1968 (11th place in the one ) and 1972 (12th place in the four with helmsman ). Meanwhile, he completed his physical education studies and continued his academic career with a doctorate at the University of Wisconsin and then at the University of Copenhagen . From 1978 he was dean of the sports science faculty at the University of Calgary . In addition, he was active in Canada's sports associations, so he was from 1982 to 1990 chairman of the Canadian Olympic Committee . He was actively involved in bidding for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and headed the Canadian sports promotion program Own the Podium .

In 1983 he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada , and in 1997 he received the Olympic Silver Medal .
