Gordon Lindsay Thomson (born March 27, 1884 in Wandsworth , London , † July 6, 1953 in Staplehurst , Kent ) was a British rower .

Gordon Thomson was a rower and rugby player. After attending University College School in Hampstead, Thomson studied at Trinity Hall , University of Cambridge . In 1909 he won the Boat Race with the eighth of Cambridge .

The rowing competitions of the 1908 Olympic Games were held on the Thames at Henley-on-Thames . Two British boats competed in all boat classes and, with the exception of the eighth, only British boats reached the finals in the four boat classes. Gordon Thomson and John Fenning reached the final in the two without a helmsman by defeating the Canadian boat . In the four without a helmsman , the Leander Club's boat with Philip Filleul , Harold Barker , Fenning and Thomson also reached the final against the Dutch. On the final day, July 31, 1908, Fenning and Thomson won the race in two with two and a half boat lengths against their club mates George Fairbairn and Philip Verdon . In the foursome, the boat from Magdalen College in Oxford won with a length and a half ahead of the boat from the Leander Club.

During the First World War , Thomson was a specialist in low-altitude photos. He received the Distinguished Service Cross for his shooting behind enemy lines at the Battle of Gallipoli . In addition to this order of the Royal Navy , he was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross of the Royal Air Force .
