A moving company is a company that specializes in organizing and carrying out moves. Depending on the type and scope of the order, it takes care of the packaging , loading , transport and unloading of the equipment and its installation in the new apartment or in the offices. The regular scope of services of a moving company also includes the dismantling and reassembly of furniture and kitchens, as well as simple electrical and water connections.

Many professional moving companies have specialized in different areas. These are in particular senior citizen removals, in which the entrepreneur offers the client as large a range of services as possible in order to relieve the client. Company removals in which the entrepreneur mainly specializes in customers who are relocating their company headquarters or who require moving services within the company. The group of private removals basically includes all removals that are carried out in the private sector, even if they are partly due to work. The specialization of the company lies in the type and scope of the service requested by the client. Especially for private moves, the entrepreneur offers a wide range of services from simple assemblies to complicated kitchen conversions by mostly their own carpenters.

The central organization of German moving companies is the Federal Association of Furniture Freight Forwarders and Logistics . There are also numerous regional associations.

Transport companies that move with vehicles over 3.5 tons need a license in Germany. The statutory basic liability is 620 euros per cubic meter of moving volume. The total liability amount results from the total loading volume of the move. Companies that only use small vans with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes (the so-called "Sprinter class") are usually not subject to the provisions of the Road Haulage Act. These companies are therefore not obliged to take out insurance. The liability rules of the law are ineffective here.

Since the beginning of 2006 household-related services have been favored by the legislature. The tax office accepts a maximum of EUR 3000.00 costs for movers and / or transport services. B. but packaging materials and rental vehicles excluded. A tax deduction of 20% - a maximum of up to 600.00 euros - could then be claimed per year.

Quality criteria

With regard to the quality of services, certain standards have been established in the area of furniture logistics in Germany, some of which are of a legal nature and some of which have been imposed by the associations themselves. The legal requirements include, for example, General German Forwarding Conditions (ADSp) to which the forwarding business is subject.

Further, self-imposed obligations emanate from the larger German cooperation communities and associations. The Deutsche Möbelspedition formulates clear criteria for quality when moving. In addition to employing trained staff, the freight forwarders are encouraged to use high-quality packaging and a suitable, modern fleet of vehicles.

With its "Ten Commandments", the Federal Association of Furniture Freight Forwarders and Logistics also defines clear guidelines for its members, which oblige the freight forwarders, for example, to work according to the principles of a prudent businessman, to create clear offers, to inform about insurance and liability provisions, in all cases Employing appropriately trained specialist staff in areas, using environmentally friendly packaging material and following the ruling of the AMÖ's arbitration board in the event of disagreements with the customer.

Finally, the certification according to the quality management standard ISO 9001, which is awarded by the TÜV, for example, indicates stable and comprehensive quality management in the moving companies.
