Pierpaolo Frattini (born February 23, 1984 in Varese ) is an Italian rower . In 2011 he won the world title in two with helmsman .

Career

Frattini began rowing in 1999. At the Junior World Championships in 2000, he took fourth place with the Italian four-man with helmsman , followed by third place in 2001, and the Italian four-man won in 2002. In 2003, Frattini reached his first World Cup final with the Italian eighth when he finished sixth in Lucerne. In 2004, the Italian eighth with Frattini finished third in Lucerne; at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , the Italian eighth missed the A final and finished seventh.

In 2005, the Italian eighth won the World Cup in Munich and took second place in the other two World Cup regattas, and at the 2005 World Rowing Championships in Gifu, Japan, the boat won the silver medal behind the US rowers. 2006 followed a rather mixed World Cup season again the silver medal at the World Championships in Eton; the Italians were ahead of the US eight, but the Germany eight won . After two years without taking part in the World Cup finals, the Italian eighth won the 2009 World Cup in Banyoles. The Italian eighth finished 6th at the 2009 World Rowing Championships and fifth at the 2009 European Rowing Championships . After another rather weak eighth season, Frattini competed at the 2010 World Rowing Championships in New Zealand with Paolo Perino and helmsman Andrea Lenzi in a two with a helmsman and won the silver medal behind the British two. In the 2011 World Cup, Frattini started in double sculls and double sculls , but at the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled he competed again with Vincenzo Capelli and helmsman Niccolo Fanchi in a controlled double and won the world championship title in front of the boats from Australia and Canada. At the European Rowing Championships in 2011 , Frattini competed in a double scull and finished fourth.

Since the two-man with helmsman is no longer an Olympic boat class, Frattini tried his hand at double sculls again in 2012. After a third place in the double quad at the World Cup in Munich, he also started in the Olympic Games in London in the double quad, but there the Italian boat only reached eleventh place. In 2013, Frattini finished eighth with the Italian eighth at the World Championships in Chungju. After finishing ninth for the Italian eighth at the 2014 World Championships , the boat finished sixth at the 2015 World Championships . At the 2016 Olympic Games , the Italian eighth finished seventh.
