Iulică Ruican (born August 29, 1971 in Cujmir , Mehedinți County ) is a former Romanian rower who won two Olympic medals.

Athletic career

Iulică Ruican finished fourth at the Junior World Championships in 1989 in a two-man with helmsman . At the World Championships in 1991 Ruican first appeared in the adult class and took fourth place together with Viorel Talapan and Dumitru Răducanu in two with helmsman.

The next year Ruican reached the finals in two boat classes at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . On August 1, Iulică Ruican, Viorel Talapan, Dimitrie Popescu , Nicolae Țaga and helmsman Dumitru Răducanu won in a four with helmsman , on August 2, Ruican and Talapan with the Romanian eight won the silver medal behind the Canadian eight. At the 1993 World Championships , Ruican won gold with the controlled foursome and silver with the eighth, in 1994 in Indianapolis he again won gold with the foursome and also bronze with the eighth. After a twelfth place with the four without a helmsman at the 1995 World Championships , Ruican finished seventh with the Romanian eighth at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . He was also the flag bearer of the Romanian team at the opening ceremony of these games. At the 1996 World Championships , Ruican won the world championship gold for the third time with the controlled foursome.

Iulică Ruican is married to the rower Anca Tănase .
