Rudiger Kunze

Rüdiger Kunze (born September 2, 1949 in Bautzen ) is a former rower from the GDR . In 1974 he became world champion in the four-man team .

Rüdiger Kunze trained at SC Einheit Dresden under Hans Eckstein . In 1974, together with Ullrich Dießner , Walter Dießner , Andreas Schulz and helmsman Wolfgang Groß, he won the world championship in the four-man with helmsman. In 1975 the boat with the same crew rowed World Championship silver behind the four from the Soviet Union. Even at the 1976 Olympic Games, the Dresden foursome was defeated by boat from the Soviet Union, but Johannes Thomas helmsman was now for Wolfgang Groß. In 1974 and 1976 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Rüdiger Kunze completed his studies at the DHfK in Leipzig and was then a rowing trainer at SC Einheit Dresden. After the reunification he worked as a teacher for social studies and sport at the vocational school center for agriculture and nutrition in Dresden.
