George Ahlgren

George Lewis Ahlgren (born August 16, 1928 in San Diego , † December 30, 1951 in Armer Mountain , Arizona ) was an American rower.

Ahlgren graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and was a member of the rowing team of the University Sports Team Golden Bears . At the 1948 Olympic Games , the eighth of the Golden Bears represented the United States in the line-up of Ian Turner , David Turner , James Hardy , George Ahlgren, Lloyd Butler , David Brown , Justus Smith , John Stack and helmsman Ralph Purchase . The US rowers won the preliminary, semi-finals and finals; in the final they had a lead of over ten seconds over the second-placed British.

After college, Ahlgren joined the US Air Force , dying in a plane crash.
