Henry Wells (rower)

Henry Bensley Wells (born January 12, 1891 in Kensington , † July 4, 1967 in Newton Abbot ) was a British rower .

After attending Winchester College , Henry Wells moved to Oxford at Magdalen College in 1910 . From 1911 to 1914 he took part as a helmsman in the Boat Race against Cambridge four times and won from 1911 to 1913. As a member of the Leander Club , he was the helmsman of the eighth , which the club sent to the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. The New College of Oxford presented the second British aft so that rowers from the victorious boat Boat Race in two British boats rowed. The eighth of the Leander Club won in the preliminary round against the eighth of the Toronto Argonauts and in the quarterfinals against the Sydney Rowing Club . After the semi-final victory over the eighth of the Berlin rowing club in 1876 , the boat of the Leander Club met the boat of New College in the final and won by three and a half seconds.

In 1914 Wells graduated from law school. During World War I he served in the 6th London Brigade. After the end of the war he was awarded the Order of MBE . From 1934 to 1958 he worked as a judge.
