Brian McMahon

Robert Brian McMahon (born July 24, 1961 in Toronto ) is a former Canadian helmsman in rowing .

The 1.78 m tall helmsman from the Ridley Graduate Boat Club in St. Catharines was a member of the Canadian eight from 1983 to 1988 . At the Rowing World Championships in 1983 , the eighth finished eighth. In 1984, the Canadian eight competed with Blair Horn , Dean Crawford , Michael Evans , Paul Steele , Grant Main , Mark Evans , Kevin Neufeld , Patrick Turner and Brian McMahon. At the 1984 Olympic Games , the Canadians finished second behind the New Zealanders in the first run and qualified for the final with a second place behind the Australians in the hope run . In the final, the Canadians won with four tenths of a second ahead of the US eighth, while the Australians won the bronze medal two seconds behind the New Zealanders.

After a tenth place at the 1985 World Championships and a ninth place at the 1986 World Championships , some rowers returned to the big boat in 1987 from the gold eighth of 1984. At the World Championships in 1987 , the Canadian eighth reached the A final again and finished fifth. With Main, McMahon, Neufeld and Steele, four Olympic champions from 1984 reached the Olympic final in 1988 and took sixth place there.
