Jörg Siebert

Jörg Siebert (born April 2, 1944 in Wetzlar ) is a former German rower . In 1968 he became Olympic champion in eighth place .

The rower from the rowing company Wetzlar 1880 found himself in 1967 in the Germany eight trained by Karl Adam . After winning the German championship, he also took part in the 1967 European championship in Vichy. The Germany eight started with Horst Meyer , Dirk Schreyer , Rüdiger Henning , Ulrich Luhn , Wolfgang Hottenrott , Egbert Hirschfelder , Jörg Siebert, Roland Boese and helmsman Gunther Tiersch . This heavily resettled eighth won the European Championship ahead of the Soviet Union and the guest starters from the USA. It was the fourth European title in a row for the Germany eighth.

In 1968 Lutz Ulbricht sat for Ulrich Luhn in the Germany eight. Horst Meyer, Dirk Schreyer, Rüdiger Henning, Wolfgang Hottenrott, Lutz Ulbricht, Egbert Hirschfelder, Jörg Siebert, Roland Boese and helmsman Gunther Tiersch became German champions together. At the Olympic Games in Mexico City, Roland Boese had to be replaced by Niko Ott due to illness and this line-up won gold in front of the Australians. The Germany eight was voted Team of the Year in 1968.

For this he received the silver bay leaf on May 10, 1968 .

Siebert is a graduate engineer and has been with Gelita AG in Eberbach since the late 1970s , which he developed into the world market leader in the gelatine market. After twenty years as CEO, he headed the supervisory board for 12 years from 2007, from which he retired in 2019 for reasons of age.
