Almuth Salomon

Almuth Salomon (born June 13, 1932 in Wilhelmshaven ; † March 6, 2018 in Münster ) was a German historian . As a scientific author, she dealt mainly with Frisian history.

Life

Almuth Salomon spent her childhood and youth in Kiel , East Prussia and Abbehausen . After graduating from secondary school in Nordenham , she studied at the Oldenburg University of Education in the early 1950s , where she graduated as a primary school teacher. She then taught at the elementary school in Altjührden before starting a second degree in history and German at the universities of Göttingen, Innsbruck and Zurich. In 1965 she received her doctorate from the Georg-August University in Göttingen with a thesis on the history of the Harlingerland up to 1600 . After several years as a lecturer at the University of Education in Hanover , she was appointed professor for medieval history, Westphalian regional history and didactics of history at the University of Education in Westphalia-Lippe (Münster II department) in August 1969 . After the merger of the University of Education with the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster on April 1, 1980, she taught at the Institute for Didactics of History at the University of Münster. In July 1997 she retired. Salomon's regional historical studies dealt in particular with the medieval history of Friesland and Lower Saxony. The focus of her teaching activity was the history-didactic training of primary school teachers. Even after her retirement, she dealt intensively with regional historical topics. Her burial took place in Abbehausen (near Nordenham).
