David Archambault II

David Archambault II (* in Denver , Colorado ), also known by his Lakota name Tokala Ohitika and as Little Dave , is an American politician, writer and Indian activist from the Standing Rock Reservation in North and South Dakota . Since October 23, 2013 he has been chairman of the tribal government, the Standing Rock Tribal Council .

Life

He spent his youth in Pine Ridge , an Indian reservation in southwest South Dakota, which is inhabited by Oglala ( Sioux ). There he went to the Little Wound School in Kyle , later to the Standing Rock Grant School. He graduated from Standing Rock Community College and Bismarck State College, and has degrees in economics from North Dakota State University and the University of Mary .

The Indian activist Archambault became internationally known for his resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline , a planned oil pipeline that will connect the fracking fields in northwest North Dakota with refineries in Patoka , Illinois . Among other things, he spoke about the pipeline project at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva . He represents the tribe on court in Washington, DC
