Daniel Ritchie (born January 6, 1987 in Margate , Kent ) is a retired British rower . Ritchie was world champion in 2013 and world championship runner-up in 2010 and 2011 with the British eighth .

Athletic career

The 1.93 m tall Daniel Ritchie started rowing in 2005. In 2008 he finished sixth at the U23 World Championships with the four without a helmsman . In 2009 he moved to the British eight. He won the bronze medal at the U23 world championships and finished fifth at the world championships .

In 2010 the British eighth won the World Cup regatta in Bled. At the World Championships on Lake Karapiro , the British won the silver medal behind the Germany eighth . The following year, the British also fought silver behind the Germans at the World Championships in Bled . In 2012 Ritchie could not qualify for the British eighth. At the European Championships , he finished seventh with the double foursome.

In 2013, Ritchie returned to eighth. The British eighth won the World Cup regattas in Sydney and Eton, but only finished fourth in Lucerne. At the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju, the British won ahead of the Germans. In 2014 Ritchie competed in the World Cup in a four-man without a helmsman, he was no longer at the World Championships.
