Coat of arms of the von Metzsch family

The von Metzsch are an old knightly Saxon-Meißnisch-Vogtland noble family (1699) and counts (1703-1740) noble family . They are of the same tribe and coat of arms as those of Pölnitz . The Metzsch often appear without the nobility predicate “von”.

It is unclear to what extent there is a connection with the Anhalt count family Metsch , from which the name of the princely line of those of Khevenhüller- Metsch is derived (via Johann Joseph Khevenhüller-Metsch and Carolina von Khevenhüller-Metsch ).

history

The family appears for the first time in 1238 with Gotscalcus von Polnicz and takes the name after the inherited village Mesitz ( Miesitz ) near Neustadt an der Orla . On March 15, 1314, Lutoldus Metsch appears for the first time under this name, also Lutold von Metzsch or Lutold v. Poellnitz . In 1474 Hans Metzsch zu Altenburg is mentioned. At the beginning of the 16th century, knight Konrad von Metzsch zu Mylau was a member of the Burggräflich-Meißnischer and Episcopal council and Heinrich was canon in Naumburg in 1594 . In Naumburg Cathedral there are various epitaphs and coats of arms of the canon Johann Heinrich von Metzsch and other family members. August Friedrich and Joachim Christian von Metzsch were members of the Fruit Bringing Society .

The family was wealthy among others in Groß- and Kleinaga (Reuss), Brunfrisch, from the middle of the 15th century for 500 years at Friesen Castle in Vogtland (which was demolished in 1945), Golmengelin , Gorenzen (from 1713), Irfersgrün , Kleyt , Kreischau , Kleinliebenau , Mosel ) (manor Obermosel II), Mutschau , Mylau Castle (mid-15th to late 16th century), Niedermylau , Polentzke , Reichenbach , Reinsdorf (Reuss), Roßlau , Schkeuditz , Schönfeld (Reuss), Schweta ( 1728–1840), Sornewitz , Wehlitz , Wildenau , Wildschütz , Zobes (until 1719) and Netzschkau Castle , which Caspar von Metzsch built in 1490 (sold in 1578).

coat of arms

The family coat of arms shows a blue rafter (also curved rafter) in silver. A blue and a silver buffalo horn on the crowned helmet. The blankets are blue-silver.

The emperor's coat of arms is quartered and covered with a crowned heart shield. The shield with the imperial eagle as a heart shield was placed on the imperial count's coat of arms.
