Trego is located in northwest Wisconsin on the Namekagon River , which is part of the Mississippi River basin across the Saint Croix River . The Minnesota border runs approximately 50 km to the west.
The geographical coordinates of Trego are 45 ° 53'59 "north latitude and 91 ° 49'16" west longitude. Trego extends over an area of 3.16 km² and is the main town of the Town of Trego .
The neighboring towns of Trego are Minong (23.1 km north), Springbrook (13 km east-northeast), Stone Lake (29 km east-southeast) and Spooner (11 km south-southwest).

The four-lane US Highway 53 runs north-south along the western outskirts of Trego. At the northern edge of the village this meets with US Highway 63 , which runs south with US 53 on a common route. All other roads are subordinate country roads, some unpaved roads and inner-city connecting roads.
In a north-south direction, a rail trail for hikers, riders and cyclists runs along the route of a former railway line with the Wild Rivers State Trail . The path can also be used with quads. In winter, the trail can also be used with cross-country skis and snowmobiles.
A railway line of the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad runs parallel to US 63 . It is a railway company founded in 1997 for tourism.
