Émile Clerc (born June 5, 1934 in Thonon-les-Bains ) is a former French rower .

Athletic career

Émile Clerc won his first international medal at the European Championships in 1956 when he finished second with the French eighth behind the boat from Czechoslovakia. At the Olympic Games in 1956 , the French eighth retired in the repechage . Four years later, Clerc was the last remaining from the 1956 eighth at the 1960 Olympics ; the French eighth took fourth place on Lake Alban behind the Germany eighth , the Canadians and the Czechoslovaks. At the European Championships in 1961 , the Italian eighth won ahead of the German boat, while Clerc won the bronze medal with the French large boat. In 1962 Clerc switched to the four-wheeler with a helmsman . In the line-up of Jean Ledoux , Émile Clerc, André Sloth , Pierre Maddaloni and helmsman Alain Bouffard , the boat won the silver medal behind the German four. Clerc continued his career until the Olympic Games in 1964 , in Tokyo he finished tenth in the four without a helmsman .
