The rowing club Emscher is a rowing club from Wanne-Eickel (in today's Herne ) and Herten .

The club area of ​​the rowing club is located at the Wanne-Eickel lock of the Rhine-Herne Canal at the city triangle between Herne, Herten and Recklinghausen opposite the Cranger fairground . There are two boat halls , changing rooms, fitness facilities and catering rooms on the club's premises. The Rhein-Herne Canal is used for the club's training and as a regatta route. From the Wanne-Eickel lock to the Gelsenkirchen lock, there is a current-free body of water of around seven kilometers available.

history

When the Rhine-Herne Canal was being built, a request was sent to the government at the time asking for it to be used for rowing, but the letter was not processed further. The association was finally founded in 1927. In the second year of the club, the then student Robert Heitkamp set a kilometer record. Heitkamp was later chairman and patron of the club and other sports clubs in Wanne-Eickel for many years.

Racing community

The RV Emscher starts together with the rowing club Hamm in a racing community as Emscher-Hammer in the rowing Bundesliga as both women and men eighth.
