Piedmont is a city in Alameda County in the US state of California , United States . It had 10,800 inhabitants in 2004 and is located on the eastern side of the San Francisco Bay . The city is completely surrounded by the larger city of Oakland . The geographical coordinates are: 37.82 ° North, 122.23 ° West. The urban area has a size of 4.4 km².

Piedmont was raised to the city in a referendum in 1907 to avoid the settlement of the settlement by the neighboring Oakland. The city is a small, affluent suburban community within the metropolitan area of San Francisco and is characterized by its many avenues , good schools and a low crime rate. As a result, real estate prices in the city are well above the already not low level in the San Francisco region. In 2007, CNN Money.com placed Piedmont, California in 21st place on its list of top earners.
