Axel Wöstmann
Axel Wöstmann (born April 12, 1961 in Osnabrück ) is a German lawyer and a former rower of the Osnabrück Rowing Association (ORV).
Athletic career
In 1978 Axel Wöstmann, together with his teammates from ORV, Torsten Bremer as helmsman and Brunon Derkes, Johannes Hafer and Hans-Günther Tiemann , won the German junior championship in a four-man with helmsman in Munich. In the final of the four without a helmsman , the four rowers of the ORV took second place. In four-without , the four rowers qualified for the Junior World Championships in Belgrade, which they finished victoriously. At the junior world championships in Moscow ( Krylatskoje ) the following year , Axel Wöstmann, together with ORV rowers Johannes Hafer, Thomas Möllenkamp and Andreas Schütte, was runner-up in the four without a helmsman of the DRV.
1980 Axel Wöstmann rowed in the eighth of the racing community of TuS Bramsche and ORV, manned by helmsman Torsten Bremer as well as Brunon Derkes, Ferdinand Hardinghaus , Ralf Kollmann, Thomas Möllenkamp, Martin Möllmann ( Bramsche ), Andreas Schütte and Hans-Günther Tiemann. The nine rowers were trained by Ralf Holtmeyer , who later became the national trainer of the German Rowing Association (DRV). The rowers of the racing community initially succeeded in winning the Mannheim Regatta , ahead of the teams from the Soviet Union , the CSSR and the Germany eighth put together by the DRV . With fifth place in the finals of the International Rotsee Regatta in Lucerne, the team finally qualified for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. All finalists of the last world championship in 1979 in Bled started in the eighth competition on the Rotsee . In addition to the record champions from the GDR , the dominant team of eight at the time, New Zealand took part as vice world champion and third place in the World Cup from the USSR as well as the rowers from Australia , the United Kingdom and the USA . The eighth of the DRV, the then "flagship" of German rowing, was also at the start. It was composed of very experienced and successful rowers, including Peter-Michael Kolbe . At that time, the eighth of the ORV, who started as the third DRV eighth, reached a time of 5: 43.42 minutes on the Rotsse over the distance of 2,000 m (final winner time DDR 5: 40.88 minutes). The eighth of the ORV qualified for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow could not start due to the politically justified boycott in Moscow. Axel Wöstmann then competed in regattas in Boston, New York City and Philadelphia in 1980 with the eighth of the ORV.
In 1980, Axel Wöstmann started the German championship rowing on the Duisburg regatta track in a four-man without a helmsman together with Ferdinand Hardinghaus, Thomas Möllenkamp and Hans-Günther Tiemann. The ORV boat won the finals and became German champion. For his club this meant the second win of a German championship in its history. In 1981 Axel Wöstmann took part together with Ferdinand Hardinghaus, Thomas Möllenkamp and Hans-Günther Tiemann in the world championships in Munich on the regatta course Oberschleißheim in a four-man without a helmsman. The team finished seventh. Wöstmann also won DM silver in 1981 in the Osnabrück-Bramscher eighth at the championship rowing in Essen.
In 1984 Axel Wöstmann achieved fourth place in the Olympic final at the Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles in two without a helmsman together with Thomas Möllenkamp on Lake Casitas with a time of 6: 52.53 minutes, less than a second away from the bronze medalists from Norway . The duo had previously won the silver medal in the German championship rowing.
Axel Wöstmann's track record includes further successes in non-Olympic boat classes .
