The Lake Casitas is a dam in the Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County in Southern California . It is primarily used as a drinking water reservoir and for irrigation , but also to stabilize the water level in the Ventura River, two kilometers downstream .
construction
The construction of the rubble dam was completed in 1959. Towards the end of 2000, as part of the Ventura River Project, measures were taken to increase earthquake security against earthquakes> 6.5 Richter scale .
location
The body of water is close to the coast of the Pacific Ocean about 85 kilometers northwest of Los Angeles . The next settlements are Oak View and Mira Monte in the east and northeast and the city of Ventura on the coast in the southeast . There is a leisure area on the north bank, but "No Body Contact with Water" applies. The largest island rises up to 150 meters above the water surface.

The lake hosted the canoeing and rowing competitions as part of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles .
The lake was also the location for the 2003 film The Secret of Green Lake directed by Andrew Davis .
