Coto de Caza is a community-free settlement in Orange County in the US state of California . For statistical purposes, the place has been combined into a census-designated place (CDP) and in 2010 had a total of 14,866 inhabitants.

geography

Coto de Caza is located on the western edge of the Santa Ana Mountains , about eight kilometers east of Mission Viejo and 30 kilometers northeast of Newport Beach . The California State Route 241 ends at the northwest edge of the village, the Interstate-5 -Highway runs at a distance of about eight kilometers to the west. The closest airport is John Wayne Airport, 30 kilometers northwest .

history

The name of the place is derived from the Spanish word for “ hunt ” and, loosely translated, means something like “domain of the hunt”, since the wooded area was originally intended to be used as a hunting ground by the owners when it was founded in 1969, but soon afterwards has been converted into an exclusive residential area that now contains almost 4,000 houses, two 18-hole golf courses, two riding centers and a private school. The entire site is one of the largest gated communities in the United States.

As part of the 1984 Summer Olympics , the modern pentathlon competitions were held in Coto de Caza.

Demographics

In 2010 there was a population of 14,866 people, an increase of 13.9% compared to 2000. The average age in 2010 was 42.2 years, well above the value of California, which was 32.1 years. 24.0% of today's residents can be traced back to immigrants from Germany. The ancestors of other residents of the place came to 18.5% from England , 16.1% from Ireland and 8.1% from Italy .
