At the XXIV Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , tennis was again represented in the Olympic program. Tennis had been Olympic from 1896 to 1924. After heated discussions between the world tennis association and the advocates of amateur sport, all tennis professionals were admitted without age restriction. Four competitions were held; the bronze medals were not played, but the places were divided.
