Canè was Italian junior champion in 1983 and professional tennis that same year. In 1985 he won his first double title on the ATP World Tour alongside Simone Colombo . With Claudio Panatta he was also in the double finals in Kitzbühel . Canè and Colombo were able to defend the Bologna title in 1986, where Canè was also in the individual finals. They also won the Palermo tournament . Canè also won his first individual title in Bordeaux by beating Kent Carlsson in the final . Overall, he won three singles and three doubles titles in the course of his career. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1989 with position 26 in singles and 1985 with position 43 in doubles.
His best individual results in Grand Slam tournaments were second round participation at the Australian Open , the French Open and Wimbledon . In doubles he reached the second round of the French Open in 1988.
Canè played 17 singles and nine doubles games for the Italian Davis Cup team between 1986 and 1994 . Five times he was with the team in the quarter-finals of the world group. After losing to Mats Wilander in their first meeting in the Davis Cup, Canè was able to win both of the others. In the 2-3 first-round defeat against Germany in 1991, he lost both singles against Boris Becker and Michael Stich . At the 1988 Summer Olympics , he competed in men's singles for Italy. After victories over the brothers Javier Sánchez and Emilio Sánchez Vicario, he reached the quarter-finals, where he was defeated by the later bronze medalist Stefan Edberg .
