In the course of time the surface changed: until 1990 it was played on clay courts, from 1991 until the end of the tournament (except in 1992) it was played on outdoor hard courts. The venue was the Villa Primrose . The tournament was part of the ATP World Series , the predecessor series of the ATP World Tour 250 . Since 2008 the tournament has been held again under the name BNP Paribas Primrose Bordeaux as part of the ATP Challenger Tour .
