Agustín Moreno (born March 31, 1967 in Guadalajara ) is a retired Mexican tennis player .

Life

Moreno attended Pepperdine University , for which he competed in doubles with Kelly Jones . In 1985 he won the junior doubles at Wimbledon alongside Jaime Yzaga . The following year he became a professional tennis player and won the doubles competition at the Challenger Tournament in Casablanca with Larry Scott . In 1987 he reached the semi-finals of a challenger tournament in singles for the first time. In 1989 he reached his only two final appearances on the ATP World Tour with Jaime Yzaga .

He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1988 with position 120 in singles and the following year with position 40 in doubles. While he never got past the first round in singles at Grand Slam tournaments, he reached the semifinals at the 1989 French Open with Leonardo Lavalle in 1988 .

Moreno played two singles and three doubles games for the Mexican Davis Cup team between 1985 and 1993 . At the 1988 Summer Olympics , he competed for Mexico and was eliminated in the second round against Stefan Edberg .

After the end of his professional career, he initially worked as an assistant coach at the University of Georgia , and since 2005 he has been head coach at the University of South Florida .
