List of Olympic champions in tennis
The list of Olympic champions in tennis shows all the winners as well as the second and third places of the tennis competitions at the Summer Olympic Games , broken down according to the individual competitions. The next part lists the twenty most successful Olympic medalists. The conclusion is the national ranking (also broken down into men and women, whereby the mixed competitions are also taken into account).
Even at the first Olympic Games in 1896, tennis was part of the official competition program. An Olympic tennis tournament was held for the last time in 1924. In 1968 tennis was an unofficial demonstration sport (only for amateurs). In 1984 demonstration tournaments were held again for players under the age of 21. Tennis has been an official Olympic sport again since 1988.
From 1896 to 1904, 1988 and 1992, there were no playoffs for third place. No gold medals were awarded at the Olympic Games in 1896 and 1904. The winner received a silver, the second a bronze medal, the third received nothing. However, the current scheme is used in the list so that all results can be compared with one another.
