Major Josiah George Ritchie (born October 18, 1870 in Westminster , † February 28, 1955 in Ashford ) was a British tennis player .

Life

Ritchie participated in tennis tournaments from 1894. His greatest success was the Olympic victory in the men's singles at the 1908 Olympic Games (on grass), when he defeated the German Otto Froitzheim 7: 5, 6: 3 and 6: 4 in the final. He also won the silver medal in men's doubles with James Parke . At Wimbledon he was able to win in the men's doubles with Anthony Wilding in 1908 and 1910 , but he was denied a single win; In 1909 Ritchie lost to Arthur Gore in the final . In addition, Ritchie won five German and one Irish championships.
