Phyllis Lindrea Covell (born May 22, 1895 in London , † October 28, 1982 in Heyshott , West Sussex ) was a British tennis player from England .

Life

Covell was first and foremost a successful doubles player. In 1919 she reached the final of the World Indoor Championships in Paris alongside Dorothy Holman . In 1923 she won the doubles competition of the US championships together with Kathleen McKane Godfree . A year later she was successful again with Godfree at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris: the two won the silver medal in women's doubles after losing to the Americans Hazel Hotchkiss Wightman and Helen Wills Moody in the final . In 1924 and 1929 Covell reached the finals in women's doubles and in 1921 the mixed final at Wimbledon .

She died in 1982 at the age of 87.
