Winifred Geraldine Beamish (born June 23, 1883 in London as Winifred Geraldine Ramsey , † May 10, 1972 ibid) was an English tennis player.

Life

Beamish was born in Forest Gate, London in 1883 . On September 30, 1911, she married the tennis player Alfred Ernest Beamish .

Beamish participated in the Wimbledon Championships from 1912 . In 1919, 1922 and 1923 she was able to advance to the semi-finals there in singles. In doubles, she reached the finals alongside Irene Peacock in 1921, but lost to Suzanne Lenglen and Elizabeth Ryan . In 1919, 1920 and 1923 she won doubles in the World Indoor Championships .

Beamish also took part in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp . While she was eliminated in the singles in the first round against Dorothy Holman , she could reach the final in doubles at Holman's side, which was lost to Winifred McNair and Kathleen McKane Godfree . Thus she won the silver medal.

Most recently she took part in the singles of the Wimbledon tournament in 1931. She died in 1972 at the age of 88 in St. Pancras, London .
