Elizabeth Ryan
Elizabeth Montague Ryan (born February 8, 1892 in Anaheim , California , † July 6, 1979 in Wimbledon , United Kingdom ) was an American tennis player .
Career
As a single player, Elizabeth Ryan was not allowed to win one of the major tournaments. She was twice in the final of Wimbledon (1921, 1930) and once in the final of Forest Hills , but she could not win the finals.
In doubles, on the other hand, she is still the most successful player at Wimbledon. In 13 finals she won 12 times: 1914, 1919–1923, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1930, 1933, 1934. In mixed she was similarly successful. Here she won 7 finals with five different partners in 10 finals. She was also successful in the doubles and mixed competitions in Paris and Forest Hills.
