Irene Peacock

Irene Evelyn Peacock (born July 27, 1892 as Irene Bowder , † June 13, 1978 ) was a South African tennis player in the 1920s.

Peacock reached the final of the British Indoor Championships in 1921 , but lost this to Dorothy Holman in three sets. She celebrated her greatest success in 1927 when she and her compatriot Bobbie Heine won the women's doubles at the French tennis championships (now the French Open ). They defeated Peggy Saunders and Phoebe Holcroft Watson in straight sets with 6: 2, 6: 1. In the individual, she also reached the final, but lost to the Dutchman Cornelia Bouman with 2: 6 and 4: 6.

In addition, she reached the double-finals at the Wimbledon Championships in 1921 and 1927 .
