Momčilo tapavica or Momčilla Tapavicza (* 14. October 1872 in Nádalja ; † 10. January 1949 in Pula ) was a Hungarian tennis players , weightlifters , wrestlers and architect with Serbian origin.

Tapavicza took part in the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 . In tennis singles competition Tapavicza won bronze. In the first round he beat the Greek D. Frangopoulos , he won another game without a fight. In the semifinals he lost to Dionysios Kasdaglis . The defeated semi-finalists were considered third and so he became a bronze medalist together with the Greek Konstantinos Paspatis .

In the two-handed weightlifting competition , Tapavicza finished fifth with a lifted weight of less than 90 kg. He was injured because he had torn a muscle fiber while lifting a weight with just one hand.

In the wrestling competition he lost to Stefanos Christopoulos and was last.

At the time when Tapavicza took part in the games, he was a Serb, but studied in Budapest and competed as a Hungarian competitor. The Vojvodina region in which he lived was still part of Austria-Hungary until 1918 . Unofficially, Tapavicza is considered to be the first representative of Serbia at the Olympic Games.

After finishing his sports career, Tapavicza became an architect. He designed buildings in Serbia and Morocco, e.g. B. the Matica Srpska building in Novi Sad .
