Ruth Isabel Winch (born August 25, 1870 in Ryde , Isle of Wight as Ruth Pennington-Legh , † January 9, 1952 in Beaumaris , Anglesey ) was an English tennis player.
Life
Winch was born in Ryde, Isle of Wight in 1870. In 1899 she married IG Winch. In the same year she appeared for the first time at the Wimbledon Championships , but had to admit defeat Bertha Steedman in the second round . In 1904 and 1919 she was able to reach the quarter-finals there. She last appeared in singles at the Wimbledon tournament in 1924.
At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 Winch won the bronze medal in the individual on grass.
She died on the Welsh island of Anglesey in 1952 at the age of 81 .
