Ryde
Ryde is an English coastal town in the northeast of the Isle of Wight .
With about 24,000 inhabitants (2011) it is the second largest city on the island after Newport . In the 19th century the place grew to the size of a seaside resort after the two villages Upper Ryde and Lower Ryde merged.

In 1814 the first sea bridge in Great Britain was built in Ryde, the Ryde Pier . The island line station of the same name is located on it . A catamaran to Portsmouth also starts at the pier , where there is a transition to the trains going to London-Waterloo . There is also a hovercraft connection to Southsea.

There are several churches in Ryde, including the All Saints' and Holy Trinity Church . Ryde Castle was built on the promenade around 1840 . The building, built as a private house, is now used as a hotel. In March 2012, Ryde Castle was badly damaged in a fire, but was able to reopen in 2013 after an extensive restoration. The Beldornie Tower manor , which probably dates from the early 17th century, was once owned by the Earl of Yarborough . Around 1840 it was rebuilt in Gothic-Jacobean style and got a west wing in 1880.
