Brading
Brading is an English city on the Isle of Wight . It has about 2000 inhabitants (2011). The city is mentioned for the first time in 683 and received city rights in 1285. In the Middle Ages and the early modern period, it was particularly important because of its port. In the 16th century the port began to silt up and the place lost its importance. Today Brading is 2 km from the sea.
Roman villa
The place is particularly famous for a Roman villa that was discovered here in 1879 and excavated in the following years. There were many mosaics, including one with the unique representation of a man with a cock's head. The villa is open to visitors.
traffic
The main road from Ryde to Sandown runs through Brading as does the Island Line from Ryde to Shanklin .
