Ladislav "Rázný" Žemla (born November 6, 1887 in Prague , † June 18, 1955 in Prague) was a Bohemian - Czechoslovakian tennis player .

Life

Žemla was a participant in the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens , where he won the bronze medal with his compatriot Zdeněk Žemla in the men's doubles competition. After further participation in the 1908 Games in London and 1912 in Stockholm , 14 years later he won the next medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp . With his compatriot Milada Skrbková he won the bronze medal in mixed doubles. At the Olympic Games that took place in Paris in 1924 , Žemla again came away empty-handed. His Olympic career spanned a total of 18 years, which meant a participation in the interludes in 1906 and four regular summer games. That record lasted until 2012 when Leander Paes played his sixth games.

In addition to his career as an Olympic athlete, he also played in other tennis tournaments. In 1906 and 1909 he won the Budapest Championship . In 1921 he won the Hainz Memorial . Once he also played at the Wimbledon Championships . In 1926 he went to all three competitions there and was in the third round in singles and doubles ; in mixed he was eliminated in round 2.

Žemla married Milada Skrbková at the beginning of his 20s , with whom he previously won bronze in Antwerp. Zdeněk Žemla and Jaroslav Žemla are probably brothers from Ladislav and, like him, competed in the interludes in 1906.
