Roland Feldhoffer (born July 8, 1962 in Heidelberg ) is a former German weightlifter .

Career

Roland Feldhoffer began lifting weights at ASV Ladenburg as a teenager . He learned the profession of electrician and later trained to become a power plant electronics technician.

The first notable result was achieved by the hard-working athlete in 1980 when he competed in a duel at the German A-Youth Championship (17/18 years of age) in Mötzingen in the weight class up to 75 kg body weight with 235 kg (102.5 kg tear and 132.5 kg pushing) took 3rd place . The winner was his later national team colleague Maik Nill from Braunschweig with 252.5 kg.

In 1981 he increased his performance in a duel to 252.5 kg (110 kg tearing and 142.5 kg pushing), with which he was in the ranking of the German A-Juniors in light heavyweight (up to 82.5 kg body weight) at the end of the year. took 12th place.

In 1982 he did not compete in any German championships. However, in 1983 he reached with the German championship of the A-juniors in Rettigheim 262.5 kg (115 kg snatch, hitting 147.5 kg) back to third place . The winner was Karl-Heinz Blois from Wolfsburg with 312.5 kg. At the end of 1983 Roland Feldhoffer had increased his performance in a duel to 277.5 kg (125 kg - 152.5 kg).

In the next few years he was able to regularly improve his performance. In 1984 he was third winner again at the German A-Juniors championship in Ehrang in the light heavyweight division . His performance was 130 kg in snatch and 155 kg in push, so a total of 285 kg.

In 1985, Roland Feldhoffer was German runner-up in St. Illgen in the B-Juniors with 295 kg in a duel (135 kg - 160 kg) and in Leimen German runner-up in the senior category with 300 kg (130 kg - 170 kg) new master Reinhard Klein from Wuppertal only lifted 12.5 kg more than he did.

The steady upward development of Roland Feldhoffer, who was accepted into the German national weightlifting team, continued under the guidance of the coach Ewald Spitz in 1986. This year it was used for the first time in an international competition, the Baltic Cup in Stavanger . There he achieved a light heavy weight of 310 kg (135 kg - 175 kg). How far he was still from the international top is shown by the performance of the winner, the Soviet athlete Israel Arsamakov , who scored 362.5 kg in a duel. Roland Feldhoffer was also allowed to compete at the World Championships this year in Sofia . He reached in the light heavyweight 312.5 kg (135 kg - 177.5 kg) and took 15th place. The winner was the Bulgarian Assen Slatew with 405 kg in front of Arsamakow with 390 kg.

At the end of 1986 he was again German runner-up in the lightweight heavyweight division in Neuaubing with 310 kg (140 kg - 170 kg) behind Bernd Ischt from Wolfsburg, who achieved 327.5 kg.

In 1987 Roland Feldhoffer did not make any further progress in terms of performance. He stagnated in his performance, as shown by the results he initially achieved this year:

  • 4th place at the EC championship in Athens in the light heavyweight category with 315 kg (135 kg - 175 kg),
  • 8th place at the European Championships in Reims in the light heavyweight division with 312.5 kg (137.5 kg - 175 kg),
  • 12th place at the world championship in Ostrava in the light heavyweight category with 320 kg (142.5 kg - 177.5 kg)

Roland Feldhoffer drew the necessary conclusions from this and switched to the middle-heavyweight (class up to 90 kg body weight) towards the end of 1987 in order to avoid constant training. At the German Seniors Championship in 1987, the first success of this measure was shown, because he increased his performance in a duel to 342.5 kg (150 kg - 192.5 kg) with the 355 kg behind Stefan Ratschker from Mutterstadt scored and Lothar Hellenbrand from Ehrang , who lifted 347.5 kg, took 3rd place .

The 1988 Olympic year then turned out to be the most successful year in Roland Feldhoffer's career. He achieved the following achievements and results:

  • 1st place , German championship in Baunatal , medium heavyweight, with 350 kg (155 kg - 195 kg), ahead of Lothar Hellenbrand, 345 kg a. Wolfgang Mächtlen, AC Germania St.Illgen, 340 kg;
  • 2nd place , EC championship, middle heavyweight, with 345 kg (150 kg - 195 kg) behind Keith Boxell, Great Britain , 355 kg a. before Per Larsen, Denmark , 337.5 kg;
  • 7th place , European Championship in Cardiff , medium heavyweight, with 347.5 kg (155 kg - 192.5 kg). The winner was Anatoli Chrapaty from the Soviet Union with 420 kg in front of Ivan Tschakarow from Bulgaria with 417.5 kg;
  • 7th place , Olympic Games in Seoul , medium heavyweight, with 350 kg (150 kg - 200 kg). The winner was Anatoli Chrapaty with 412.5 kg ahead of Nail Muchamedarow, USSR with 400 kg

After the Olympic Games, Roland Feldhoffer had to reduce his training for professional reasons. In 1989 he was used again at the Danube Cup tournament in Donaueschingen, but only weighed 322.5 kg (140 kg - 182.5 kg) in the middleweight division. In 1990 and 1991 he was still often lifting for his club, ASV Ladenburg, in the German weightlifting league. He achieved a performance of 320 kg. In 1991 he increased his performance again to 342.5 kg (155 kg - 187.5 kg). With a body weight of 92.5 kg, he was only slightly in the heavyweight division.

However, on February 23, 1991, he suffered his weightlifting fate. In a Bundesliga match he was found to have increased testosterone / epitestosterone levels during a doping control. He was then banned from the German Weightlifting Association for a year, but did not return to the lifting platform.

One final remark: After the intensification of doping controls by the International Weightlifting Association, the performance of the winners at the Olympic Games and World Championships in the middle-heavyweight division decreased by approx. 30 kg to 40 kg from approx. 420 kg (see Anatoli Chrapaty). Nizami Paşayev from Azerbaijan, who exceeded the 400 kg limit in the weight class up to 94 kg for the first time at the world championship in 2005 with 401 kg, was subsequently convicted of doping and banned for life as a repeat offender.
