Günther Brennecke

Günther Brennecke (born January 13, 1927 ) is a former German hockey player . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1956.

Günther Brennecke was already in the German Olympic team at the 1952 Olympic Games, which were eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Dutch. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, Brennecke took part in all five games. After the team had reached a goalless draw against the eventual Olympic winners Pakistan, they lost 1-0 in the semi-finals against the Indians. In the game for the bronze medal, the Germans won 3-1 against the British.

On January 21, 1957, he and the German Olympic hockey team received the Silver Laurel Leaf.

In total, Brennecke played in 46 international matches from 1951 to 1960. For his services to sport in Lower Saxony , he was accepted into the gallery of honor of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History.

Günther Brennecke was a mainstay of the Goslarer SC 08 as a middle runner . After the team failed several times in the semi-finals at Uhlenhorst Mülheim , they reached the final of the German championship against SC Brandenburg in 1956 , but lost with 1: 2 goals. This was the greatest success of the hockey players in the club's history.
