Helga Schmidt learned to swim when she moved to Oldenburg when she was ten . She was awarded the silver bay leaf .

Schmidt-Neuber studied at the Bremen University of the Arts from 1957 to 1961 and has worked as an artist ever since. She was married to Senate Councilor Götz Neuber and lived in Dötlingen - Klattenhof .
