With the amateurs of the Düsseldorfer SC 99 the young goalkeeper matured into an outstanding goalkeeper in the amateur league Niederrhein. At the age of 23, Görtz dared to make the leap into the Oberliga West in the summer of 1957, when he moved to the "Flinger Broich" at Fortuna Düsseldorf . At Fortuna, he did not experience lasting success. In the 1959/60 season , Görtz guarded the goal in 24 games, and in cooperation with Karl Hoffmann , Heinz Janssen , Erich Juskowiak , Matthias Mauritz , Bernhard Steffen , Franz-Josef Wolfframm and Dieter Wöske, he was even relegated to the 2nd Oberliga West not prevent. With 26:34 points, one point behind the four clubs VfL Bochum , Hamborn 07 , Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Borussia München-Gladbach , Fortuna was relegated. Immediate promotion was achieved after a year. In the 1961/62 season, the goalkeeper finished ninth with Fortuna in the Oberliga West and had guarded the goal in 29 games. In the 1962 DFB Cup he faced Sportfreunde Lebenstedt, 1.FC Saarbrücken (also in the replay on August 15), in the semi-finals against FC Schalke 04 and in the final on August 29, 1962 in Hanover against 1. FC Nürnberg in the goal of the team of coach Jupp Derwall . The "Club" won the cup in extra time with 2-1 goals. Since Fortuna Düsseldorf had not been accepted into the newly founded Bundesliga 1963/64 , Albert Görtz played with Fortuna in the Regionalliga West until the end of the 1965/66 season . In the second season in the Regionalliga, 1964/65 , the veteran completed 28 missions and the talent Dirk Krüssenberg had to make do with the role of a representative. In the successful round of 1965/66, Fortuna won the title in the West and also prevailed in the promotion round to the Bundesliga with coach Kuno Klötzer , but the role reversal in the Düsseldorf goal was carried out: Krüssenberg replaced Görtz as regular goalkeeper. Albert Görtz also contributed to winning the Regional League championship with his goalkeeping skills in three games: against Alemannia Aachen , Eintracht Duisburg and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.

In the summer of 1966 he returned to his former youth club Düsseldorfer SC 99 in the Lower Rhine amateur league . For Fortuna Düsseldorf he played in the Oberliga 92 from 1957 to 1966 and 50 in the Regionalliga. Görtz is married and has no children.

National team

As goalkeeper of the Düsseldorfer SC 99, he completed five successive international matches for the amateur national team in 1956 and 1957 . On May 19 and 21, 1956 he was used in the two international matches against the selections of France and Scotland. His performances shown there prompted national coach Sepp Herberger to vocations in the contingents of the senior squad for the internationals on June 13 in Oslo against the national team of Norway and on June 30 in Stockholm against the national team of Sweden . Günter Sawitzki was in the goal of the DFB team in both matches . In August 1956, there were three more appearances in test matches of the DFB selection against a combination of 1. FC Nürnberg / SpVgg Fürth, against 1. FC Cologne and 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Another highlight was his third game for the amateur national team; it took place on November 24, 1956 in Melbourne in the Olympic soccer tournament against the later Olympic champion Soviet Union . The German defense association with Willi Gerdau , Hermann Höfer , Karl Hoffmann, Rudi Hoffmann , Fritz Semmelmann and Herbert Schäfer , together with the brilliantly holding Düsseldorf goalkeeper, brought the favored Soviet Union almost to the brink of defeat. In the end, the result was 1: 2 and Germany was eliminated after the first game.

From February 18 to March 2, 1957, Görtz took part in a DFB inspection course for the German national team in Duisburg together with his goalkeeper colleagues Hans Tilkowski and Horst Schnoor . In the international match of the senior national team on May 22, 1957 against the national team of Scotland , he held the substitute role again, Tilkowski completed his second international match. Previously, Görtz played his fourth and fifth international matches for the amateur national team. On May 15, 1957, the game in Glasgow ended 1: 1 against the selection of Scotland, as well as against the selection of England on May 21, 1957 in Offenburg. The last time Görtz sniffed international air was when Sepp Herberger invited him to Munich for the first World Cup course in 1958 from July 22 to 28, 1957. When Görtz was able to fight for points in the Oberliga West from the 1957/58 season , rivals Herkenrath, Kwiatkowski, Sawitzki and Tilkowski passed him, making his use in the national team impossible.
