Günter Sawitzki (born November 22, 1932 in Herne ; † December 14, 2020 ) was a German football goalkeeper .

Career

societies

Savitsky, in Herne born, began at Stadtteilverein turf sports 1,927 Holthausen playing football and became the season 1953/54 from the Oberliga side SV Sodingen committed for which he as in three seasons Goalkeeper 64 point games in the Oberliga West completed.

For the 1956/57 season he was signed by VfB Stuttgart , for which he played over 400 games until 1971 and with which he won the DFB Cup in 1958 . In 1963 he qualified with the team for the Bundesliga , in which he was the regular goalkeeper until 1968 and was then replaced by the only 20-year-old Gerhard Heinze . In the Bundesliga premiere season he played 29 of 30 league games, where he made his debut on August 24, 1963 (1st matchday) in the 0-2 defeat in the away game against FC Schalke 04 . When he was ousted by Gerhard Heinze, he played for the VfB amateur team , with which he was1971 reached the final of the German amateur championship, but it was lost 1-0 to SC Jülich .

After a short return to the Bundesliga, he played his last two games for VfB Stuttgart in the 1970/71 season on October 24th and 31st, 1970 (12th and 13th matchdays) in a 2-1 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt and in the 1: 4 defeat in the away game against Borussia Mönchengladbach .

After a total of 248 league games (including 64 for Sodingen, 184 for Stuttgart) and 146 Bundesliga games, “Sawi” ended his career at VfB Stuttgart in 1971 at the age of 38.

National team

Sawitzki made his debut in the B national team , in which his teammate from Sodingen, Gerhard Harpers, also played on May 31, 1956 in Barcelona . In the 5-2 victory over the Spanish B selection, Horst Szymaniak , Jakob Miltz , Erich Bäumler and Heinz Wewers also made their debut in the black and white dress of the “second guard”. By October 1958, Sawitzki guarded the goal of the B-Elf in three of seven other games.

In the senior national team he played a total of ten times from 1956 to 1963 (twice during his time with Sodingen, eight times with Stuttgart) and took part with the national team at the soccer world championships in Sweden in 1958 and in Chile in 1962 , but without a commitment.
