Erich Bäumler (born January 6, 1930 in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate , † September 18, 2003 in Rüsselsheim ) was a German football player .
career
The versatile technician, who was mainly used as a striker , began his career at SpVgg Weiden before moving to Eintracht Frankfurt in 1954 . Bäumler adhered to the image of a unlucky fellow, as he was repeatedly hindered and thrown back by injuries and illnesses in crucial situations in his career.
During his time in Weiden, Bäumler was appointed 15 times in the Bayern selection, with which he won the DFB country cup three times in a row between 1952 and 1954 . In 1952 he was scheduled for the squad of the German Olympic selection, but was canceled at the last minute.
In 1956 Bäumler wore the German national jersey three times - first on May 31, 1956 in Barcelona in the B international match against Spain (3-1), in which the attacker scored as well as in the A international match on June 13, 1956 in Oslo against Norway (3: 1). Bäumler's last DFB appearance was the international B game on September 15, 1956 in Moscow against the Soviet Union (1: 3), in which Bäumler came on for Bernhard Termath and remained without a goal. After he sustained a serious knee injury in a friendly for the national team, it ended his national playing career.
For Eintracht Frankfurt, Bäumler was used in over 300 first-team games, 110 of which were league games in which he scored 41 goals. Bäumler played a key role in the club's greatest successes to date, the German football championship in 1959 and the entry into the final for the European Cup in 1960, but was unable to take part in the respective finals in both cases due to illness or injury.
After his time in Frankfurt, Bäumler moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 in 1960 , for whom he scored 26 goals in 56 league games. From 1962 he continued his career at Opel Rüsselsheim , where he worked as a trainer as well as at Mainz 05 and SG Hoechst , SG Egelsbach , VfR Groß-Gerau and SG Kelkheim after his active time.
Professionally, Bäumler was initially a dispatcher at the Federal Railroad, later head of the property office in Rüsselsheim .
