history

The historic community of Holthausen is characterized by agriculture and consists of the settlements Holthausen, Börsinghausen, Kray and Holthauser Bruch as well as Sodinger Holz and the farms north of Oestrich on Lange Straße.

To 910 the name "Holthuson" first appeared in lifting register (Urbar A) of the Benedictine Abbey are an der Ruhr on. Around 1200 the name developed to today's spelling Holthausen. The name can be translated as "settlement / homestead by the forest".

Holthausen belonged to the county of Mark . In 1807 this was attached to the Grand Duchy of Berg , which was under French rule . During the Ruhr Department , Holthausen was part of the Mairie Castrop . From 1815 the mayor's office or the office of Castrop in the Dortmund district was then part of the Prussian province of Westphalia .

To distinguish it from another place called Holthausen in the Dortmund district , the community was temporarily given the addition of Castrop .

In 1902 the Castrop office was dissolved, so that the rural communities of Sodingen (with Gysenberg), Börnig and Holthausen near Castrop came to the newly established Sodingen office in the Dortmund district. All three communities were incorporated into the city of Herne on April 1, 1928 in the course of the then incorporation , the population of which rose by a third as a result. A small part of the area was reclassified to Castrop-Rauxel .
