Sodingen is a district of Herne where 11,688 people live (December 2018). It belongs to the district of Herne-Sodingen . The former farmers of Gysenberg also belong to it .

history

On May 30, 1913, the community Giesenberg-Sodingen (also called Giesenberg ) was officially renamed Sodingen. The incorporation to Herne took place on April 1, 1928. The Sodingen office was then part of the Dortmund district .

As of December 31, 2018, 11,688 residents lived in the district of Sodingen, of which 5,576 residents were in the statistical district Sodingen-Kern, 4,349 residents in the statistical district Sodingen-Süd and 1,763 residents in the statistical district Constantin.

Buildings, clubs

The neo-Gothic church of St. Peter and Paul was built between 1902 and 1903.

Also worth mentioning is the St. Johannis church on Mont-Cenis-Straße, to which a kindergarten, a community center and the rectory are connected.
The historic church was extensively renovated in 2009 by the Essen-based specialist construction company Schultheis .

Sodingen's club life includes the sports club from 1912 Sodingen , the Herne-Sodingen chess club in 1924 and Arminia Sodingen in 1926.
