Administrative history
The Dortmund district was founded in 1817 after the end of the French Grand Duchy of Berg and the Ruhr department in the Arnsberg administrative district of the newly created Prussian province of Westphalia . The district was initially divided into the seven mayorries Aplerbeck, Castrop, Dortmund, Hörde, Lünen, Lütgendortmund and Schwerte.
As part of the introduction of the rural community order for the province of Westphalia, the mayor's offices were transferred to offices in 1843/1845 , with the cities of Dortmund and Schwerte remaining vacant. Since then, the district has comprised six offices and a total of 91 municipalities:
In 1858 the city of Hörde left the office of the same name and became vacant. In 1874 the offices of Barop and Brackel were newly formed and the office of Hörde was dissolved. At the same time Lünen became vacant. In 1874 the community of Annen-Wullen was raised to its own office. In 1875 the city of Dortmund left the district and became an independent city . Since then, the Dortmund district has been called the Dortmund district . The district now comprised eight offices and a total of 90 municipalities:
