The district of Persebeck is located in the southwest of the city of Dortmund , right on the city limits to Witten . It was first mentioned in a document in 820.

Persebeck is bounded by the Witten districts of Rüdinghausen and Stockum and the Dortmund districts of Kruckel , Menglinghausen , Eichlinghofen and Salingen . Persebeck belongs to the Hombruch district .

The Grotenbach , which is part of the Emscher Cooperative Association, flows through Persebeck . The Grotenbach flows from Witten through Persebeck and flows into the Rüpingsbach in Hombruch . The Grotenbach was cleared of faeces and industrial wastewater through targeted piping of the dirty water. The old concrete bed of the Emscher Cooperative was removed, but a final renaturation is still pending.

On the night of September 30, 2019, heavy rain flooded a meadow on the Grotenbach, where 350 sheep were sleeping. The heavy rain partially flooded the meadow at a height of 2 m. A night mission by 120 firefighters saved around 330 animals and 20 sheep drowned. It was a difficult and strenuous mission, as the weight of the animals more than doubled due to the water absorbed.

In 1920 Persebeck was incorporated into Barop .

Fire fighting train 17 of the Dortmund volunteer fire brigade is stationed in Persebeck, at the confluence of Kruckeler Strasse and Menglinghauser Strasse. These roads form the main traffic routes in the village. The place is integrated into the local public transport via line 448 of Stadtwerke Dortmund in the VRR . With the adjacent train line and the Kruckel stop (S-Bahn line 5) there is a good connection to Dortmund main station as well as to Witten and Hagen .

Persebeck has a kindergarten and an AWO on Grotenkamp Street. There is also a youth room in the AWO building and the kindergarten. Before the construction of the municipal building, old tunnels at the United Wiendahlsbank colliery had to be filled with concrete at great expense. In the area adjacent to the volunteer fire brigade and Menglinghauser Straße is the “Westentaschenpark”, a mini green area with play equipment and a football field .

Groceries can be obtained in a small shopping center between Kruckel and Persebeck. A kiosk, a bicycle shop and a flower shop have set up shop in Persebeck as further retailers.
