history
The village formerly consisted of a few farms, which were grouped around the manor Haus Sölde . Sölde was first mentioned under the name Sulede in 1176, later as Soledhe (around 1249). Sölde developed into a suburb, especially in the 1960s. An important employer before the Second World War was the Margarete colliery on Schlagbaumstrasse. For decades, the landmark for the temporarily “provisional” character of the suburb was the bell structure of the Protestant church on Sölder Strasse. For lack of money, the parish had the bells hung in this scaffolding at a height of about 4 m - until the bell tower was supposed to be completed soon. Since this was a long time coming, the residents of Sölder Straße, Begonia and Geranienstraße had to endure the bells at least three times a day from very close range.
On August 1, 1929, Sölde was incorporated into Dortmund. Part of it was incorporated into the municipality of Holzwickede .
The construction of the “Maiglöckchenweg” housing estate, a junction of Begonienstrasse on a former grassland area, which was completed in the 1960s, was problematic. Since mainly large families from socially not very affluent backgrounds were settled here, an aversion to the resident population quickly developed. After some vacant lots on Begonienstraße were closed in the 1970s, the ratio normalized.
The local football club VfR Sölde played in the Oberliga Westfalen in the 1980s and 1990s and, together with SG Lütgendortmund, was the most successful team in Dortmund's amateur football. The club plays its home games in the district league A on the “Am Rosengarten” sports field.
