history

Early Years and Boom (1911 to 1989)

The club was founded in 1911 as a gymnastics and games club in Sölden . The football department became independent on June 22, 1922 as VfR Sölde. The VfR was dissolved on August 5, 1945. The members joined the large association TuS Dortmund-Sölde-Sölderhaus before VfR Sölde was re-established in January 1951. The first team initially played in the district league and in 1971 made it to the district class. Eight years later, the VfR A-youth prevailed in the Westphalia League against the professional competition of Borussia Dortmund , FC Schalke 04 and VfL Bochum and became Westphalia champions. So the Sölder qualified for the German championship , where they beat Holstein Kiel in the round of 16 , but then failed in the quarter-finals at 1. FC Nürnberg .

A year later, the businessman Rainer Röhr began to get involved financially with VfR. Already in 1981 he was promoted to the Landesliga Westfalen . Four years later, the Sölder made the leap into the Association League Westphalia . With one point behind Teutonia Lippstadt , relegation was only just missed. After the direct resurgence, the VfR had the chance to march through to the Oberliga Westfalen in the season 1987/88, but lost the deciding game for the championship in neutral Lüdenscheid against the Sportfreunde Siegen with 4: 6 after penalties . In 1989, under coach Ingo Peter, he was promoted to the then third-class Oberliga Westfalen. In addition, the Sölder won the Westphalia Cup with a 2-1 victory over FC Gütersloh .

Oberliga Westfalen (1991 to 1997)

In the major league, the VfR caused a sensation through their offensive style of play and their technically skilled players. In the promotion season 1989/90 the Sölder finished fifth and were eliminated in the first round in the DFB Cup with 0: 3 against 1. FC Köln . This was followed by third place in the 1990/91 season , before the team of coach Ingo Peter reached its sporting zenith in the 1991/92 season . With two points behind Preußen Münster , the VfR was runner-up and narrowly missed the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga . According to coach Peter, the sticking point of the season was the 3-2 defeat at ASC Schöppingen . The Sölder then took part in the German amateur championship . There, VfR initially separated 1: 1 from Rot-Weiss Essen and then won 5: 1 at 1. FC Magdeburg . After a 0: 2 against Greifswalder SC and a 2: 8 with the amateurs of Werder Bremen , the Sölder group came fourth.

In the summer of 1992 there was a great change. Coach Ingo Peter switched to Arminia Bielefeld and took striker Theo Schneider with him. Five other top performers switched to the up-and-coming TuS Ahlen . Ingo Peter later explained in an interview with RevierSport magazine that the financier Röhr had been stubborn when it came to donating a few marks for the team fund. From now on, the VfR no longer bet out of camaraderie, but signed numerous foreign players, which significantly disrupted the team spirit. As early as the 1992/93 season , relegation could only just be prevented. A year later, the Sölder missed the newly created Regionalliga West . In the now fourth-class league, the club did not get beyond mediocrity. At the same time, the number of viewers fell steadily.

Decline and Present (since 1997)

In 1997 the club voluntarily withdrew from the league and was downgraded to the regional league. Funder Rainer Röhr had turned the money off of the association. Initially, this step was justified with occupational overload. Years later, Röhr explained that there were "other trends in the club where he no longer enjoyed it." In addition, a stadium construction project in Sölde failed. In the regional league, the VfR competed three times with the old men and then withdrew the team. Nevertheless, the sporty downward trend continued. In 1999 the Sölder relegated to the district league A and were immediately passed through to the district league B.

While the VfR was ridiculed by other clubs because of its past, especially at away games, the club was able to consolidate financially and was again debt-free in 2004. Two years later he was promoted to the district league A. After a third place in 2016, he was promoted back to the district league a year later.

Personalities

Stadion

VfR Sölde plays on its Am Rosengarten sports field , which has an artificial turf surface. During the league time, however, the home games took place in the Aplerbecker Waldstadion , which is located in neighboring Aplerbeck . The reason for the change was that a place with natural grass is mandatory in the major league .
