Ingo Peter (born October 23, 1951 ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player. In 1981 he became the USA Champion with Chicago Sting .

He was a player for Borussia Dortmund between 1970 and 1972 . There he made five Bundesliga appearances as a midfielder in his second season , before resigning himself due to quarrels with coach Herbert Burdenski .

He then played at TSC Eintracht Dortmund , DJK Gütersloh , VfB Altena and SV Holzwickede with which he won the German Amateur Championship in 1976 . Then he played from 1977 at DSC Wanne-Eickel and rose with them in 1978 to the 2nd Bundesliga, followed by 2 years with Wanne-Eickel in the second division.

On the recommendation of Karl-Heinz Granitza , who was born in Dortmund , he became his teammate in the North American Soccer League with the Chicago Sting . With the Stings he became American champion in 1981 by winning the final over the New York Cosmos trained by Hennes Weisweiler . In addition to Granitza, Paul Hahn , Arno Steffenhagen and goalkeeper Dieter Ferner were three other Germans in the winning team. Ingo Peter later rose to become team captain.

Trainer

After returning from the USA, Peter started out as a coach at the district league club ÖSG Viktoria 08 Dortmund. From 1989 to 1992 and in the second half of the 1993/94 season he coached VfR Sölde , in between he was coach of the then third-class DSC Arminia Bielefeld .

From 1994 to 2003, including a leave of absence at the end of 2000, he was the coach of Sportfreunde Siegen . With the club he rose in 1997 to the former third-class regional league, where the team stayed in the top three for the first three years, and in 1999 reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup .

He then moved to the second division promoted SSV Jahn Regensburg , where he worked until November 17, 2003. The team was in 14th place at the time of dismissal, one rank above the relegation zone. At the end of the season, the Regensburg team were relegated as 16th.

On November 24, 2003, he was hired as a coach by the league competitor LR Ahlen, who was in 18th and last place . He led the club to secure 12th place until the end of the season. In the following season, the team was back in last place after four defeats in a row and Peter was released on March 1, 2005. At the end of this time, the Ahlen team was 13th again.

Since April 2007 Peter has been a technical advisor at SV Holzwickede . From January 6th to June 30th, 2009 he also volunteered for the Westphalia league team SpVg Olpe , whose main sponsor is also Peter's employer. From the 2011/12 season Peter also took over the coaching position at SV Holzwickede.
